Three Tips for Better AC Efficiency

Our air conditioners aren’t done yet! We’ve still got a few hot days left in 2021, and don’t even get us started on the hot days coming in 2022! With just one machine powering the cooling comfort of your home, it can be a little anxiety-inducing knowing that you rely on this technology so much.

Don’t worry, take a deep breath. We’re here to help you, and not just by providing seasonal AC maintenance in Sarasota, or last-minute repairs for a homeowner in need. We’ve got some great tips that you can employ that will help reduce your energy consumption and increase the comfort levels of your home. All of these can be done at a minimal cost, and some can even be done for free!

Energy efficiency isn’t just a trick of the trade, it’s a lifestyle. The more you get used to saving energy, the better off you’ll be in the long term.

Change the Air Filter Regularly

The air filter is an important component to your HVAC system. It traps contaminants like dust and dirt from causing your coils to get messy and inhibit the cooling process. Depending on how frequently you use your air conditioner, you will have to change your air filter every 1-3 months.

Think about how often we use our AC systems down here in Sarasota. It’s almost impossible to go a season without using it once or twice. By changing your air filter regularly, you’re minimizing the chance for a repair need to crop up or your energy efficiency levels to drop.

Insulate Your Home and Keep Things Closed

That open window might be pretty when the sun is setting, but it’s letting all the cool air out. Windows and doors are prime suspects when looking at high energy bills from an air conditioner that’s struggling to keep you comfortable. It’s important to do a thorough check around your house to make sure that all the windows and doors are closed when the air conditioner is running.

If you really want to experience the breeze that’s blowing in, just be sure to shut your air conditioner off for at least a little while. Then you can enjoy fresh, outdoor temperatures while not overburdening your AC system.

Invest in Maintenance

Air conditioning maintenance now? But isn’t it so late in the season? Perhaps you should just wait until next year to get your air conditioner maintained by a professional.

That’s probably what you’ve thought over the past few weeks, but we urge you to reconsider. Maintenance is a vital service and it doesn’t really matter when you get it done, as long as it’s done on a regular basis. Sure, fall maintenance is easier because it’s when we’re not as inundated with heating repair calls or AC installations, but we can still make time in the winter to provide your air conditioner with the necessary tune-up it needs.

If you skipped maintenance this year, or you think your AC could wait until next year, think about calling us and scheduling an appointment in the next month. We promise it will be worth it!
