Preparing Your Heater for the Drop in Temperature

Here in Florida, the drop in temperature from fall to winter isn’t as severe as it is for our northern neighbors. However, if you think that you’ll get through the winter here without the need for a heating system, you probably haven’t been around here for very long. Things do cool down, especially at night, and not having a heater that works for your home could spell disaster.

Heating in Sarasota, FL is an important service that we offer. We want all of our customers to know that we’re ready and willing to help with any repairs, installations, maintenance, and replacement services you might need. And, for everyone else, we’d like to focus today on some tips that can help you turn your heater on for the first time this season. Whether you like it or not, colder temperatures are coming, and we can be your helpful guide to getting you ready for them.

Tips for the Season

Let’s get started on some easy tips that can help your heater function easily this winter. We want to be sure that you have a fresh start and that you’re not constantly calling for expensive repairs. These tips can help you avoid those problems.

Tip #1: Change the Air Filter

Your air filter should be changed every 1-3 months. This isn’t just a preference, it’s an important benchmark to remember so that your system is never inundated with dust, debris, or being stifled for fresh air. As the air gets recycled through your home, it enters the intake duct where it can be reheated—but only if you’ve got an air filter there to allow the fresh air in.

By changing the air filter at the beginning of every season, you can ensure that your heating bills remain low, that your system stays in good condition, and that your indoor air quality receives a nice boon as well. This is something we advise all homeowners to do, so it’s a good idea to get started on it today!

Tip #2: Invest in Maintenance

Maintenance involves yearly appointments for our professional technicians to inspect your system and provide any minor repairs and adjustments that could really benefit it. You could see improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and fewer repairs in the near future as long as you schedule yearly. Did we also mention that many heater warranties are voided if you don’t invest in maintenance?

Tip #3: Unblock Your Vents

When the heated air starts rolling into your home, how are you supposed to feel it if the vents are clogged with dust, carpets, furniture, boxes, and other things that stifle them? Uncover all the vents in your home so that you get a free flow of air that’s comfortable and keeps you happy this winter!

Tip #4: Upgrade Your Thermostat

Thermostats are like the brains of your heating system. Without a sufficiently advanced one, you’re missing out on a ton of features that could actually save you money! Take for instance a programmable thermostat—it will turn the heat down during the night while you sleep cozily under blankets, and will turn it back up in the morning. Night after night, when this happens, you’ll save a huge amount of money on your monthly heating bill.
