Your air conditioner is the caped crusader of your home. It keeps the temperature low, the humidity even lower, and filters out dust, debris, and particles in the air. It rocks, but it’s in trouble.
Without AC repair in Sarasota, FL, your air conditioner could be in trouble. You can be left without air conditioning for a while if you ignore obvious signs that it’s in need of repair. Let’s talk about what those are and when you need to call for repairs.
AC Cabinet Water Leakage
Your air conditioner pulls humidity from the air, then it filters it through a condensate drain line to the outside of your home. The line (usually a black rubber tube coming out of the outdoor AC cabinet) points away from the home and leaks water throughout normal operation.
But if the water is coming from the metal cabinet itself, that’s when you have a mighty big issue. This means that water is backing up and potentially flooding parts of your AC cabinet that aren’t supposed to mix with water.
Increasing Short Cycling
Short cycling is bad, but it’s even worse when it’s constant. Your AC may occasionally run into trouble here or there, but when it happens frequently, it’s a bigger deal than you might think.
When your air conditioner powers down in the middle of its 15-20 minute cycle and then kicks back on again shortly after, it’s short cycling. You can tell because the temperature in the home won’t be what you set it to when it shuts off.
So it’s tuning on, still not finishing the cycle, turning off, then on again. This is highly inefficient and points to a much bigger problem than your room not getting appropriately cooled. It’s a precursor to your air conditioner breaking down, and it’s not all that far away.
Weird and Unknown Noises
You know what your AC sounds like. Actually, you might not–the noise just blends into the background after a while. That’s why it’s important to take note when you suddenly start hearing your AC.
More than likely, it means something happened that piqued the interest of your ears. Something changed. This is an indicator that your AC’s operation is producing a different sound, even if it’s just slightly altered from how it was before.
Certain noises, such as metal scraping on metal, are clear symptoms of big problems. Depending on the noise, you may want to shut it down right away and call for emergency repair.
Get Repairs Before it’s Too Late
Listen to the signs and get repairs before your air conditioner runs into a full-scale breakdown. Check regularly, listen for any abnormalities in how your AC sounds, and be sure to make the call when it’s needed.
If you get ahead of the curve and don’t delay, your diligence could help you reduce costs. When your AC begins to break down, the failing component can start affecting other parts and spread the damage–be on top of it now so you don’t have to worry about higher repair bills later.
